  • Edges
  • Body Position/Strength
  • The Peak Power Push
  • Balance and Power
  • Quick Starts
  • Forward and Backward Skating
  • Crossovers on a Curve
  • Lateral Movement

3. I would like my child to learn the basics of skating technique – do you have a summer school?

4. How do your team powerskating sessions work? Do you come onto our practice session icetime?

I run my session on your team’s practice ice. I realize that this is premium time but I believe that strong skating skills are as important as strong hockey skills.

5. Can the hockey coaches come on the ice?

It is highly recommended that the coaches be on the ice during the session so that they can pick up the techniques that I am working on with the players. This allows them to learn the technique and work with the team on their skating skills on an ongoing basis.

6. Do the skaters wear their equipment?

In order to best simulate the game playing weight, players are to wear full equipment, including sticks.

7. Will the players be practicing powerskating with the puck?

No pucks while learning the basics of my powerskating technique. First skaters will learn balance, then power and agility, then speed, and then acceleration. Once mastered…we learn to maintain balance, power, speed, and acceleration with the puck.

8. How many powerskating sessions do you recommend to learn your powerskating technique system?

This depends on the skill level, the expectations of the coaches and the commitment of the coaches to work on skating skills during subsequent practice sessions. One session is a good start, 3 sessions throughout the season will allow for reinforcement, correction and greater learning. An ongoing program is ideal. Bottom line is fit in what you can…

9. If a coach wants to work on a particular skating technique/skill can this be worked into the practice session?

Most definitely! If there is something that you would like me to focus on for a particular session I can work it in.

10. What is your ideal group size for your powerskating sessions?

Smaller groups get more individualized attention, have more skating time and are more effective. It would be best to keep the group to a maximum of 15-20.

11. Do you offer your services just to children?

I offer my sessions to all age groups (initiation/mite to adult) and skating abilities (recreational to pro). I am also willing to work with officials and coaches.
