The Peak Power Push

A number of factors make up a "full power skating push/thrust". One easy way to achieve more power is to ensure that your full body weight is centered on top of your blade.

YOU choose when it is time to make contact on the ice with your 2nd pushing foot - if you are falling onto your 2nd push, you are not 100% centered on top of your initial thrusting foot.

How do you get yourself "centered"?

Make sure that your head, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are all pushing downward into your skating blade. Feel the weight of your body pressing into the ice. Strong inner body strength will create a strong body core and help you press all your weight into each edge.

The “Bite Exercise” (put a hyperlink here to this exercise in the tips and drills section) is another way to work on strong edge “feel” and proper weighting.
