3 Circle Drill
Level of Difficulty/Target Skating Level: Beginner to Advanced
Forward/Defence/Both: Both
Powerskating Technique Skill: Skating on a curve, crossovers, shoulder and upper body control/strength
Result: Improved Body Position/Strength, Balance, Power, Acceleration, Speed.

Drill description:

 

  • Start in one corner of the ice
  • Skate forwards twice around the endzone in a large circle
  • Keep outside shoulder in front - watch that the shoulders don't dip into the center of the circle - keep them level
  • Practice proper crossover technique pushing the leg out and then under
  • After 2 circle completions, skate into the middle zone of the ice and repeat in the opposite direction
  • After 2 circle completions, skate into the other endzone and repeat in the original direction

Repeat backwards - remember to sit back into the knees and press 100% bodyweight into the middle of the blade on EACH and EVERY push.
